Using Images in Text

The correct way to including an image in an article is this:

[[Image:Filename.gif|thumb|right|CaptionText]]

Depending on whether you want to display the actual size picture (smaller pictures will actually be magnified if shown as a thumbnail, making it pixellated), you can replace the "thumb" by "frame".

If you want to put the picture on the left side of the page, replace "right" with "left". According to standard, pictures are placed on the right, but if there are several pictures close together, alternating the side can make it look better.

Finally, "CaptionText" is whatever you want displayed below the picture.

Adding Pictures to Categories

Don't.

Adding a picture to a category will cause it to be displayed as a thumbnail in that category, which can slow the page loading down if there are many pictures - it defeats the point of categories that allow a quick browsing of the content.

The only exception are maps. The category "Maps" is specifically for map images, and Category:Maps brings up a gallery of all maps currently uploaded. A map image should be added to this category.
