All Giant Intelligent Friendly Talking Spiders refer to each other and themselves by the name "Spider". It is not quite clear how - if at all - they tell each other apart as individuals. It has been theorized that they have more complex, untranslatable names in their own language, but since no human has learned this language, it is impossible to confirm. Contrary evidence appears to indicate that the Spiders actually have no native language, since they speak in the Human tongue amongst themselves.

The leader of a colony is commonly referred to by residents as the "Chief Spider" as well as "Spider".
