Fort Saffron sits between the Great Cave and the uncontrolled territory near the Abyss. Its primary purpose, which it has fulfilled with greater and lesser degrees of success, has been to keep bandits out of the Great Cave. During the Empire-Avernum War it was briefly defended by Avernite troops before they fell back and it was swallowed up in front line fighting. After the war, the fort was salvaged and put to use again, though it was plagued by Darkside Loyalists.
