Farming

Farming or agriculture is the process of producing food or other useful products by the cultivation of plants or the raising of domesticated animals. Farming is the most common industry on Ermarian, but it is also one of the poorest. Many farmers are subsistence farmers, men or women who only raise enough food to feed themselves and their families.

In Exile especially, where the growing conditions are not conducive to the mega-farms sometimes seen on the surface, farmers struggle to survive. Most farmers there are heavily reliant on special varieties of mushrooms created by mages, and may use non-traditional livestock, such as giant lizards.

Many farmers make a living by supplying nearby towns with their goods in a wholesale deal, while others take their chances selling directly to the people in an open market or even selling out of their farms. Farmers who cultivate somewhat rarer plants, such as alchemical ingredients, are in high demand.
