Fort Emerald is named for the strange and powerful Emerald around which it was wisely built. Founded during the First Slith War, it blocked the most direct route between the castle of Sss-Thsss and the Castle of Avernum. It was subjected to constant bombardment by slithzerikai mages, and survived only due to aggressive use of fireballs and magic barriers by Avernite mages who channeled the power of the Emerald. It reprised this role during the Empire-Avernum War, when it was the primary defense against Fort Dolthar.
