When the Empire-Avernum War began, a large band of nephilim invaded the mines north of Fort Draco. Avernum, its resources spread thin by the war, established the makeshift Fort Ganrick just north of Draco in an attempt to hold the nephils off until more troops could be mustered.
It was Fort Ganrick at which the Empire War Heroes were initially stationed, and their first heroic act was infiltrating the nephil lair and beheading their chieftain. When the war ended, Avernite troops mopped up the remaining nephils, and Fort Ganrick was abandoned.
