During the Empire-Avernum War, the Empire built Kothtar, a fort staffed mostly by mages and occupied with powerful magical research. The mages there did experiments on mutant giants and new forms of magic barriers, and stole the Orb of Thralni from the Castle.
Kothtar was eventually destroyed by the Empire War Heroes.
