Ermarian names, in humans, are commonly from one of two origins: They are derived from Ancient Aizoan (not to be confused with Native Aizoan), and Imperial Standard (Pralgadian), though the distinction between them has become somewhat blurred through the centuries.

Some Emperors, upon attaining the throne, have been known to take a "more regal" surname, changing the name of their House and the surnames of everyone in it in the process. Most notably, this includes the Ironclads and the Strongarms.

A list of slithzerikai names and list of nephil names can be found in separate entries.

Aizoan

Aizoan names are known to favor the vowel 'a'. The syllable 'an' or 'on' is a very common ending for given names, although the harsher sound 'k' (usually believed to have entered the language from Native Aizoan) is common as well.

Pralgadian

Most Pralgadian names have harsh sounding collections of consonants, featuring the letter 'z'. However, a native dialect appears to be the origin of lighter names that frequently end in vowels.

Mages

Mages frequently take names in Soruharvan or some equally ancient tongue upon being initiated. These are here frequently transcribed into names used in English, although some remain in their original language.
