Talk:Anastasia

I was going over script for A4 and was looking in z10 (ie. Khoth's Ruins). I was looking for any text saying where Anastasia says that she worked with Nephilim or was killed by adventurers long ago. You know what I found...nothing that says that the two Anastasia's (rebel and lich) have any ties of being the same being. Arch-Mage Solberg 18:47, 21 December 2006 (PST)

It would be quite a coincidence for a never-before-seen lich to have the same name as a "powerful" mage who was killed thirty years earlier not too far away and whose remains were left in a castle taken over by a cult that created undead.
There are also a few lines that support the connection in A4: "I have dealt with adventurers for my whole existence. Many have tried to hunt me. All have failed." The last sentence can be reconciled with Anastasia's death in A1 given that she was restored in a more powerful form afterwards.
Additionally, Anastasia the mage had a sort of mercenary attitude and sold her services to (and manipulated) various sects of Nephilim. Anastasia the lich displayed the same attitude and strategy in selling her services to Rentar-Ihrno.
So there is no explicit mention that they are the same, but there is plentiful evidence suggesting that they are, and there is nothing whatsoever to contradict it. This makes the connection a reasonable inference, category #2 on Canon. --- Slarty 07:01, 22 December 2006 (PST)

Well I guess that makes sense. It's just that it seems that whenever I do something like that I get called out for going against canon. Like the spell Prolongation, it's never named in the games but it is referenced to! Maybe if I called it 'Magical Life Extension' would that be better? Arch-Mage Solberg 07:29, 22 December 2006 (PST)

The key phrases above are plentiful evidence and nothing whatsoever to contradict it. Some of your past edits have involved making things up for which there is no evidence in the games, and which don't really follow the pattern of similar things we do have evidence for. Calling the gold necklace the Necklace of Persuasion would be a good example. This would be category #5 in Canon and is not acceptable for EE additions.
Other times you just make stuff up, like dates and details in Solberg's biography. That's not so bad, which is why they don't get edited out, but they are still totally arbitrary -- not based on any evidence in the games. This would be category #4 in Canon.
The concept of your Prolongation entry was great; it's definitely referenced in A4 as you point out, and might deserve an entry. But almost every detail in the entry was made up, including the following statements:
  • It's a single spell. (Why not a series of extremely complex rituals and spells? It's clearly not something most wizards can cast.)
  • It's a fairly new spell. (Nothing to suggest this.)
  • It lasts until dispelled or the caster dies. (Nothing like this happens in the games and it's hard to imagine how that would play out.)
  • Familiars are instantly killed. (This is totally arbitrary and doesn't make any sense. It's transparently a way to explain Cheeseball's disappearance, but it's a really bizarre and unlikely way which can hardly be considered reasonable inference.)
  • X and Erika used the spell. (Again, there's no evidence for or suggestion of this. It's certainly possible they did, but it would be just as reasonable to say they didn't.)
  • There are rumors that Garzahd used the spell, but he didn't. (What rumors? No suggestion of those. And if anything, Garzahd was more likely than X to have used it, considering Garzahd's obsession with magical augmentations and his (likely) greater age.)
All we really know is that there is some magical effect that Solberg and Rone used to extend their lives (and Micah's).
In summary: EE is, for the most part, not a creative endeavor. It is an organizing and archiving one. --- Slarty 08:06, 22 December 2006 (PST)

RE: Is Anastasia the Lich and Anastasia the rebel the one and the same.

In light of Avernum: Escape from the Pit this problem can be solved.

The Anastasia from the Nephilim Fort got a name change as well as some expansion to their background. Therefore we could say they are two different people.
