Talk:X

I want to just say my thoughts on 'X'. He used the spell Prolongation before Rone and Solberg. I also believe him to be a non-human. These are just thoughts I figured I'd mention for discussion. Arch-Mage Solberg 21:10, 13 December 2006 (PST)

Is there any evidence that he prolonged his life magically? We don't actually know how old he is, and it's certainly possible that he was only 25 or 30 in Avernum 1.
As for being non-human, that kind of wild speculation is interesting, but not suitable for EE. -- Slarty 06:28, 14 December 2006 (PST)
Now that I think of it, wasn't X's gender displayed ambiguously in A/E 3? --Rakshasi 18:59, 15 December 2006 (PST)
None of the games if I recall actually say whether 'X' is male or female. The game might say he or she, but in the description it says that you can't tell. I'm baseing this on E1-3 and A1-3. I can't recall with certainty what A4 says.Arch-Mage Solberg 20:17, 15 December 2006 (PST)

According to Vogel, this character was "... named after the wizard X. Who is named after a person who posted on an online discussion group I was on once under the handle 'X'." So ambiguous sexuality fits, as does unknown age. Incidentally, this conversation occurred after I asked if Xian was shorthand for Christian. He replies eventually that "If there is any mystery in my games, it is best to assume the most mundane explanations. :)" Hopefully that clears some things.--Slimy Salmon 08:19, 24 October 2007 (PDT)

Part of the Five

In Avernum 6, X claims quite unambiguously to have been one of the five (naming the other four as "lost Erika ... old Solberg ... lost Patrick and Rone"). I'd add that to the page (qualified by him being the only source of the claim) but was surprised to see the page already categorically denies that claim. I wonder what the in-game source for that was, because if the games contradict themselves again then we should reference both. -- Arancaytar | Send Reply! --- That is not dead which can eternal lie... 22:25, 4 August 2022 (UTC)
