Elderan

Elderan was a powerful wizard who fought for the Empire in the Empire-Avernum War. He commanded a fortress known as the Tower of Elderan.

Initially, Elderan had the interesting dual role of being both chief record-keeper, and a general launching sorties against Avernum. Midway through the war, however, the records were relocated to the safer and more distant Empire Archives. Elderan remained one of Avernum's deadliest foes until he was slain by the Empire War Heroes.

As a wizard, Elderan was notable for his work in warding magic. He developed special, apparently ineradicable tattoos that cursed the recipient, preventing them from leaving his tower without dying.
