Gremlins

Gremlins are diminutive, psychotic and among the most unpredictable members of Faeriekind. About two feet in height, these humanoids are covered in short purple hair and possess sharp claws and fangs. Some Gremlins seem display the ability to confuse their foes so they attack each other, rather than the gremlin.

All appear to have thieving tendencies; particularly for food. This is most likely due to their ravenous appetites, if insulted or displeased they will devour the culprit. With most sightings of Gremlins, they are reported to be in the midst of wild celebrations which feature wild dancing, singing, smoking and copious amounts of wine. Some adventurers have actually taken part in these celebrations although the Gremlins typically take food or coin as "payment".

The typical Gremlin would be considered murderously insane by our standards but all seem to possess a (if twisted) sense of humor. Often if a guest (ie victim) manages to sufficiently entertain they will be rewarded and allowed to leave in peace. Gremlins are also known for their wine-making skills, producing so named Gremlin Wine which is known to have magical properties.

Like many non-humans on living on the surface the Gremlins were greatly affected by the Empire's persecution and most escaped to the Caves below although some still lived in the more isolated areas on the surface.

Gremlin Subspecies

Gremlins were once considered to come in one variety. But some researchers have considered that there are at least two subspecies. The first are considered to kleptomaniacs even by Gremlin standards, stealing belongings even as they punch their victims to death. They are reported to have a more magenta complexion. The second are more common in the present day and as mentioned use mental attacks to confuse their enemies and have a dark purple colouration. The former seems to have died out due to predations of adventurers and the like as they were easier to dispatch.

However there are also stories of other kinds of Gremlins. Most prominently in Skylark Vale within the Magic School where several kinds in a variety of colours were reported. It is theorised that they were altered by the raw magic that went unchecked.
