The Pit of the Drake was a series of volcanic tunnels located in the tunnels west of the Great Cave. This place was named after the fearsome Chasm Drake which inhabited it pre Avernum times up to the time of Hawthorne III.
Many adventurers were lured to the lair with the intent of killing the Chasm Drake and most lost their lives, the survivors telling horrific stories of their ordeal. One such group was carrying the enchanted weapon Smite which was taken as trophy by the Drake.
After the Chasm Drake was defeated by Hawthorne's Assassins the area fell out of history. Though it undoubtedly still inhabited by various reptilian creatures.
